Monthly Message
The Wutherich & Co. Composite was flat at 0.0% in July. This compares with the S&P/TSX being up 0.8%.
There is no lack of things to worry about in the world: Inflation, the climate emergency, Covid, geo-politics and stock valuations are all reasons for great concern. At times like this, we always remind ourselves that the world does not stop turning and that good companies find ways to navigate through the turbulence. We double check the fundamentals of the names that we own or are interested in and find that our companies are in good shape with strong long-term prospects. For months now, we’ve had a mix of a few richly priced stocks, several neutrally priced stocks and a number of strikingly cheap ones. Mix them together and we have a recipe for good long-term returns though we’d like to remind our clients that it is never a straight line. There will be plenty of twists and turns along the way.
In the meantime, Happy August! JF and I wish you a happy rest of your summer.
